Spreadsheets...arughhhhhh!!

This week caused me to step out of my comfort zone and try spreadsheets. I have very little to no experience with them. I was very nervous at the beginning and then we had class time to work on a spreadsheet. There were two that we could pick to do and it was very nice because it walked me through the activity step by step, there was no creativity needed, but feel I walked away knowing a lot more. I can also say that I also feel a bit more comfortable with spreadsheets. Could I teach them to my class, NO WAY, but at least I feel like I could maybe attempt to do my own class spreadsheet on assessment data. It was actually good to feel this way because now I know how many teachers feel when there is new technology introduced. I never really understood their anxiety, but I did in this class!! I just need to remember to take it slow and not just let it go because then I will forget things if I don't use it.

Hello Miss Lippy,
I totally understand where you are coming from. This was also the first time that I used spreadsheets and I was nervous/scared as well. It all turned out ok in the end, and I also feel that I learned something new! See you soon!

At least you are getting more comfortable with it. In my department, there is a big division between those that cut and paste and those that don't. Using spreadsheets are a great way to help you create any type of graph for a worksheet for the kids... Maybe a pie chart, yummy. See you Thursday.

Getting out of our comfort zone is a good thing - I'm glad you learned and over time you may recall what we did and find a way to include in your class.

You can do it! It just takes some time. I know that the application at your level becomes a little more difficult, but students could organize animals by any number of classifications or any number of other activities that just gets them used to entering information into cells, don't worry about the formulas just yet.
